Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees in all 50 states and Puerto Rico who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.

In Congress and in Legislatures Across America
PIA represents members’ interests in state capitals and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to ensure that lawmakers understand insurance agents’ positions. PIA’s year-round advocacy on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. is combined with grassroots campaigns on pending legislation and PIA members’ engagement with lawmakers at home, in their districts and states. Our goals: support laws that are good for independent agents, and oppose legislation that would disadvantage agents. Our annual PIA Advocacy Day in our nation’s capital and our political action committee, PIAPAC, increases the power of agents’ action.
Before Regulatory Bodies
As important as good legislation is to the success of independent agents, so are regulatory matters. PIA is fully engaged with entities such as the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). PIA is a steadfast supporter of our state-based system of insurance regulation, and is unalterably opposed to federal insurance regulation.
Industry Advocacy
PIA advocates for its member agents throughout the insurance industry with carriers, vendors and technology firms. In addition, PIA pursues an aggressive public relations strategy promoting our legislative and regulatory stances – and providing go-to, authoritative expertise on behalf of agent topics – in the insurance trade press.

PIA members receive concise, accurate and timely information needed to better manage their business and also keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments that could impact their agencies.
